Gosh, I've really let this go, haven't I?

I'm ashamed to admit that I have totally ignored this blog and the things I said I would do. Utterly.
I'm not proud of that, and I'm not offering a defence. Quite the contrary.
Instead, I have been trying to wrap my head around the search for work and building a life of sorts in Liecester. Those things, at least, are going well.
The odd thing about them is that there's nothing exciting to report. Not a thing that isn't day to day life. None of this makes for electrifying blogging, nor does it particularly inspire me to do much that is creative. On the other hand, it has been snowy and rainy and grey and grim here - as my fellow brits know only too well - and all of these things tend to make me want to curl up and read books.
I've done that a lot. Over the last couple of months, I've ploughed through about 30 novels - few of any great consequence. 26 of them were the entire Sharpe series, which are good (if undemanding) fun and it's nice to watch an author crowbar his hero into every aspect of a historical period. I have also read:

and
The Lasy Colony
- by John Scalzi (it's the last part of a series that starts with Old Man's War, continues with The Ghost Brigades and is well worth a read if you fancy some unrepentant scifi).
The Graveyard Book - Neil Gaiman's book for kids and the parents that like to read to them, which is a really good read.
The Day of the Triffids - John Wyndham...because the Beeb did a new version of it over the new year.
Annyway. I am going to shuffle off into obscurity for another couple of weeks while I concentrate on finding work.

Lazy blogging is not up there in the top twenty Greatest Sins. Besides, your excuse is up there in the top probably ten Best Excuses. (Number One would be dying or something like that. (Like that? Yep, there are other things like that.)) Anyway, i haven't read any of those except the triffids, in my youth. I avoided the BBC version as it looked both appalling and horribly mutilated. (Horribly mutilated isn't necessarily appalling.)

Good Luck!!! Glad your reading:-) I'm trying to muscle through Robert Jordan's Eye of the World right now. Eh, its adequate. I'm only reading it because I promised a friend I would. If it doesn't get any better by the end of the first book I'm so not going to read the series. I'm also going to start The Eyes of the Dragon by Stephen King, and I just started Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond. Its a historic look at why some cultures developed weapons and certain technologies and why some cultures didn't. So far its fantastic. Peace out friend!! Smile like you mean it:-)
